CHOOSING A GOOD THERAPIST:
Recommendation
It is always better to choose to see a therapist
who has been recommended to you by a friend or
family member or a reputable Association. If you
don't know anyone who could recommend a good
therapist, then make sure that the therapist you
choose is one who can verify being attached to a
reputable association such as United Fellowship
of Hypnotherapists, The World Federation of
Hypnotherapists or the Hypnotherapy Society. It
is also a good idea to decide first, whether you
want to be treated by a male or female therapist
Chaperones
If you feel anxious about seeing a
Hypnotherapist, then ask if you can take a
friend along with you for the initial
consultation, also you may ask the therapist if
you can have a friend or family member attend
your actual Hypnotherapy sessions, most
therapists will allow this however, if your
therapist refuses, ask for his or her reasons
why, if you are still not satisfied, then we
suggest that you find another therapist who will
allow you to be chaperoned. A good Therapist
will also record the treatment session as a
further safeguard against abuse.
Accreditation
When you arrive at the therapist’s consultation
practice, look around, notice how the place is
decorated, is it clean, tidy, and quiet. Also
check the walls for your therapist’s diploma so
that you can see which associations he or she is
a member of and for how long.
Members of the United Fellowship of
Hypnotherapists, The World Federation of
Hypnotherapists & the Hypnotherapy Society for
instance, can be recognised as professional
members by their membership certificate which
also states their expiry date and the use of the
letters MUFH MWFH MHS should appear after the
therapists name on any advertising material or
business stationary.
Indemnity
It is extremely important to ask the therapist
to verify that he or she has adequate and up to
date indemnity insurance to practice as a
professional Hypnotherapist. All good therapists
will be happy to verify this, if you come across
a therapist who is not covered by the correct
insurance for Hypnotherapy, you should not
continue with that therapist under any
circumstances.
Fees
Always ask the therapist to explain his/her
normal charging procedure and ask him or her to
explain exactly what you will be receiving for
your money, how long treatment may take and why
it would take that long. Fees are usually from
£25 - £50 per hour depending on what part of the
country you live.
IF IN DOUBT
If you are in any doubt as to your therapist
experience and or qualifications ask the
therapist to supply you with the name and
address of the associations to which he or she
is attached, do not hesitate to contact the
associations by letter or by phone to verify the
therapist's details and credentials. You can
also write to any association for further help
and advice
